Saturday, the second and most expected day of competition at the Longines Global Champions Tour of Rome in arena Stadio dei Marmi “Pietro Mennea”, with the highlight class of the entire event, the Grand Prix 1.60 – three hundred thousand Euros in prize money for this class with two manches and jump-off – started at 12:30 and ended with the award ceremony after almost four hours of competition, and I followed it beside Charles Villoz, Longines Vice President. I had the pleasure of met him last June during the leg in Monaco, in which he had reiterated me the involvement of Longines into equestrian sports, who is dating back to 1878 with the production of a chronograph bearing the engraving of a jockey and his horse, and it’s since 1912 that the brand supports partnerships with events of show jumping, beeing today the official partner of the most important and prestigious horse shows around the world. The arena was open for the reconnaissance, naturally also it Italian and designed by Chef de Piste Uliano Vezzani, and thanks to Longines I was able to view and have an explanation of the round jump to jump. Fifty riders at the start for a real catwalk of samples. Twenty those without penalty who qualified to the second round, and only six accessed the barrage with double clear rounds. Sabato, secondo e più atteso giorno di gare del Longines Global Champions Tour Roma all’arena Stadio dei Marmi “Pietro Mennea”, con la categoria clou di tutto l’evento, il Gran Premio altezza 1.60 – trecentomila euro di montepremi per questa gara a due manche più barrage – iniziato alle ore 12.30 e terminato con la cerimonia di premiazione dopo quasi più di quattro ore di competizione, e che ho seguito accanto a Charles Villoz, Vice President Longines. Avevo avuto il piacere di conoscerlo lo scorso giungo durante la tappa di Monaco, nella quale mi aveva ribadito l’impegno di Longines verso sport equestri, risalente al 1878 con la produzione di un cronografo recante l’incisione di un fantino e del suo cavallo, ed è dal 1912 che il brand sostiene partnership con eventi di salto ostacoli, confermandosi oggi partner ufficiale delle più importanti e prestigiose competizioni equestri di tutto il mondo.
Campo aperto per la ricognizione del percorso, naturalmente anch’esso tutto tricolore disegnato dallo Chef de Piste Uliano Vezzani, che grazie a Longines mi è stato possibile visionare con spiegazione del giro salto per salto. Cinquanta i binomi al via per una vera e propria passerella di campioni. Venti quelli senza errori qualificati alla seconda manche, e solo sei acceduti al barrage con doppio netto. A siglare il proprio nome per la prima volta nell’albo della tappa nella Capitale italiana, è stata la Svezia con Rolf Goran Bengtsson, alla sua seconda vittoria nel circuito dopo quella di Londra. In sella a Casall ASK, il cavallo più anziano d’età della categoria con i suoi sedici anni, ha fermato il cronometro del barrage a 37.87 secondi. Secondo posto per la portoghese Luciana Diniz (38.00) simbolo di semplicità ed armonia, ha salutato a lungo il caloroso pubblico dopo la prestazione e coccolato la sua amata Fit For Fun 13 grazie alla quale è seconda nella classifica complessiva di tutto il circuito. Terza piazza per il tedesco Marcus Ehning su Comme il Faut (38.32).

For the first time (staging the LGCT in Rome) it is really unbelievable. I’m having a great time. I think for me it’s one of the best Longines Global Champions Tour stages I have had so far. My horse is nearly the same as the show: he is unbelievable. He has improved again and again over the past year. He is just ten years old so he doesn’t have the top experience for that level but we have good results and I’m extremely happy with him.

Per me è una delle migliori tappe del Longines Global Champions Tour a cui ho partecipato sinora. Il mio cavallo è molto simile a questo evento: semplicemente incredibile. E’ migliorato molto nel corso dell’ultimo anno. Ha soli dieci anni e non possiede moltissima esperienza in questo livello, ma abbiamo raggiunto buoni risultati e sono estremamente felice con lui.

A private tour to the FEI‘s stables along with Longines and Jessica Springsteen, daughter of the legendary Bruce, she attended competitions and brings color of the United States of America, and then the curtain fell also on the second day of the spectacular Roman Longines Global Champions Tour, which this weekend will yet be in Vienna, and next November in Doha for the Final.
Un blindato tour per le scuderie FEI con Longines e Jessica Springsteen, figlia del mitico Bruce in gara e porta colore degli Stati Uniti d’America, ed è poi calato il sipario anche sulla seconda giornata romana dello spettacolare Longines Global Champions Tour, che questo fine settimana sarà già alla volta di Vienna, ed il prossimo novembre a Doha in vista della Finale.
